      Makeup is something that almost every girl has tried, love it or hate it, we all can admit that it can

 transform an appearance and maybe even a girl's confidence. Now I personally love makeup, but I do 

understand that it's very time consuming and if you're a perfection like me, one eye can't be different 

than the other. I realize also that a lot of people aren't so into art, (which I do see makeup as a form of 

art and expression) which can make makeup an even more tedious task. But practice makes perfect, and 

I can't stress enough about the millions upon millions of makeup tutorials available.

        What is a little more difficult is finding tutorials or inspiration for dark skin or African American

 women. All the intricate eye makeup and lip colors are made for a certain type of shade, which not 

every one can pull off. So I will be posting makeup combinations for ebony skin tones as well.

        Prom is coming up, so I've been searching the depths of the web trying to find an interesting, yet 

classy makeup look, hope I can help someone!

 I actually bought this lip stain, the other day at 

my local drugstore, the colors are very solid so make sure the shade is complementing to your skin tone. 

Other than that, I love the the long lasting color, and there are many color choices.

 Although smokey eyes are fabulous and 

mysterious, they make the eye appear small, using white liner or a shadow like in the above photo is a 

great way to draw attention to the eyes and make them look bigger.

 I love love love this color, it is also an 

upcoming trend according to magazines. Although I don't see much of an every day use in this makeup, 

it is really a beautiful color for all skin tones. It is a nice pop of color for those with lighter skin tones, 

and blends will for darker skin tones. This color may not be so suitable for those with a pinkish skin 

hue, due to the color it may make the skin appear more red.

 I love winged eye shadow, it is a nice way to 

play up your eye makeup. There are plenty of different wing patterns to suit your eye shape, which I 

will post a picture of later. One look that I have come to love is a bold eye with a neutral shade on the 

lips, it comes off less harsh and gives a soft look that is more easy to pull off.

 This lip color is great for if you are a darker skin tone 

trying to pull off a brighter color. I do this technique all the time: outline the darker color around the

 lips, and fill the brighter on your lips. On the top lip it also looks good to use the darker color only.

 This color on the eyes is soooo perfect, I tried 

it but instead of using a bronzer, to blend it more with my skin tone I used my foundation so the 

eyeshadow would't look tacky on me.

  This glitter eye shadow is definitely on trend right

 now. I haven't tried it personally, but I do know that try and apply the glitter ONLY on the small of 

your eyelid. Using too much will not give the same glamorous affect. Shade above the glitter in a 

similar color as a gradual transition to your skin so the colors aren't too bold.

 The silver is a nice touch, but what I want you

 guys to see is how the eyeliner extends in the crease of the eyelid. This is a technique that I HIGHLY 

recommend if you have smaller. Everytime I do my makeup I do this for my eyelid, because it makes 

the eyes appear bigger. Even using this technique without eyeshadow works beautifully.

Dark Skin Tones

 This is a good look for an ebony tone, any light 

neutral shade on the eyelids will blend well with the skin.

  Although this is a more subtle color for 

makeup, and I'm more so about go big or go home. This is a quick look to do in the morning.

  Kelly Rowland is already a perfect being. She is a great 

example of how to wear a deep red lipstick with subtle eye makeup.


  This is a greattt look for prom. If my dress 

didn't have silver in it this would most definitely be a contender makeup look. The gold goes great with 

dark skin tones.

  Any purples look good for eye shadow on 

African Americans, purple is just a good choice for a flattering makeup.

 In closing, here are some of the different

pull off!

Beginer Techniques

   I'm not a professional artist, but there are a few techniques I learned from school. Of course, these are

 commonly used techniques, but it's the creative idea that can really set it apart. Art is easier to show

 than talk about so I'll just get to the pictures!

 

This is actually a drawing I found on an art blog, but drawing portraits in negative space of newspaper

 always is a nice play on portraits.

My art work

 This was a mutation technique I tried for class. What I 

learned from this drawing was that using charcoal over acrylic paint actually gives a nice affect and 

shadow to the darkened areas. I frequently used mixed media because certain media come off as 

different visuals than others. Using different mediums can really make certain parts of the drawing stand 

out. I drew this from a model in a magazine and just transformed the picture. I think mutation art is a 

great way to get out of your comfort zone. I generally work with self portraits so doing something a 

little morbid was a nice change.

 These last two drawings were actually for a 

domestic violence bulletin at work. It was a direct drawing from the original, but splashes of color on

 black and white portraits are visually interesting. I also drew light flecks of color in the eyes.

 This drawing was used with paint and Prisma color pencil. 

Making texture in the creases on white shirts with charcoal always look very realistic.

 

Used with charcoal, but the difference in starting these charcoal portraits is that instead of using 

charcoal on white paper, you shade the background with vine charcoal. Vine charcoal can be easily 

erased, but adds a nice texture to the background, also it acts as the medium tone of the skin. Erasing 

highlights will be more prominent considering the background is grey. Another thing I found eye 

catching is drawing portraits that aren't so picture perfect, drawing interesting faces or off guard shots 

are always interesting to look at.

 This is called a wrapping technique, this also works on 

drawing animals, this was my first time attempting this method on a portrait, I didn't want to 

stereotypically draw animals which are commonly used for this method.

According to me:: Ombre Craze Isn't Over!

Ombre

Although many of you may already be up to trend with this style.. ombre refers to hair color fading from dark to light, or vice versa.

One positive that I personally see in ombre is the minimal degree of damage being done to

 the hair. When only the tips are ombre, you are not damaging your roots. I try to use as

 little chemical in my hair care preferences. Because who wants to touch up roots every 

month?!

So if you are considering to dye your hair, but you are a little weary about the upkeep and

 having to frequently dye your new growth; ombre is a great low maintenance technique 

you should consider. There are plenty of different styles of ombre that I've been discovering

 through research. Here are a few:

Now of course I can't speak for everyone… but I will; Kim K's ombre is pretty flawless, and a little bad a. I'm too lame for that. 

I've always been in love with red and blond hair, yay or nay?

Another thing I'm too lame for… If I could pull this off believe me I sooo would. It's a risky play on ombre and I'm pretty into it. So if you've got more balls than me, I say try it :)

Ombre can literally work for anyone, just give it a try! These are only a few of many different styles.

If your hair is relaxed like myself, beauticians will try to discourage you from any other 

chemical being applied to your hair. And they're right, especially if it is long, but there are 

plenty of health restoration products at your local beauty supply store. If you are not 

satisfied with the outcome, WAIT A COUPLE WEEKS TO RE-DYE. You don't want to damage 

your hair over hair dye, it really isn't worth it. Also, it is best to dye hair a week after your 

last perm.

This just so happens to be one of my favorite style gurus on YouTube BeautyByJJ, her choice of color looks sooo beautiful, but I'm darker than her so I wanted to find a really close reference to my skin tone. Otherwise this would be suitable for anyone (I'm just a bit picky)!

I'm also really in love with Estelle's ombre, it's a more subtle color, but it is great for those who are ebony toned.

In April I will be dying my hair ombre professionally. There are a few YouTube videos that I will link. But I'm way too lame to attempt something so permanent! I will be posting pictures of my hair in April to show you guys.

PROM SEASONNN!

Hey lovelies, hope all is well.

Prom is coming up soon!

If you're like me, this is not information you are hearing for the first time. I've been planning for about a 

month or two now, and I have come to realize there aren't many blogs or websites who help in the 

process of planning. Even my partner in crime Pinterest doesn't have much to offer on this topic! It's 

can be pretty stressful if you're on a budget like me, so I thought I'd share a couple tips on how to 

save money and look good too! 

I will post a link to my Pinterest board for prom, but my style may be different than what you may be looking for. The main thing that isn't so subjective are couples pictures, hair styles and make up. Hope this is some assistance :)

     Most importantly, my first task at hand was to find a dress. Now contrary to popular belief, try not to 

search to much online about different silhouettes and colors that will suite you. Because, in the end, you 

may not even find what you are looking for, but maybe you'll find something even better and surprise

 yourself! The best thing to do is ask around and see what the best stores are in your area. But take 

these names down with caution!! No girl wants to show up at her prom to find another girl wearing 

your dress. If you see a rack full of the same dress, chances are someone else will buy it in your town, 

especially if you live in all small town like I do!

I have purchased my prom dress already, I went to several stores downtown trying to avoid places too close to home that I knew all my friends would be going to. I highly suggest going to a location where one of a kind dresses are made. It may sound a little silly, but hispanic owned malls or stores that sell Quinciniera dresses are very repitable stores. Most of them make their dresses one of a kind, and are fairly cheap. If you are residing in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, there is a mall called The Grande Plaza, which have many stores in there family owned and not too expensive. This is where I found my dress that I am in love with! Hopefully you can check it out because their choices are endless!

I will be posting more about prom, but only in sections so the information isn't too overwhelming.
